Nine Reasons to Start Using our Latest Valuation Software (VSS9)

For 36 years we have been focused on building the best valuation software to help business valuation professionals automate and standardize their valuation practice. VSS9 is the culmination of these efforts, and it is proving to be a total game changer. Here are nine reasons why you should switch over:

  1. Upgrade at No Extra Cost for Existing Software Subscribers

If you are already a ValuSource software user with a current subscription, there is no cost to upgrade from VSS8 to VSS9.

  1. Much Faster

Open and save files much more quickly.  Also, the program is much more responsive when navigating from screen to screen.

  1. Microsoft Updates Won’t Cause Havoc

In the past, when Microsoft Office released updates it could cause havoc with our software, but this is a thing of the past with VSS9. This ensures continuity and eliminates glitches.

  1. Bring Your Own Template OR Use Ours

If you would like to use your own templates, they can easily be converted to VSS9. If you would like to use our templates, VSS9 includes built-in industry-best-practice templates. It’s important to note though, that if you create a valuation in VSS9 or convert a VSS8 project to VSS9, it can’t be opened in VSS8. This makes sense since the improved functionality and usability are not backward compatible with VSS8.

  1. Streamlined Report Writer

The old report writer relied on text characters (chevrons) for number, table and chart fields. The updated report writer uses native Word fields, which makes creating and editing reports a breeze. Pagination and editing are much easier, plus what you see is what you get in terms of the final product. The report also opens in a separate window so that both the spreadsheet and document can be seen at the same time.

  1. Several Analysis Files Can Now be Connected to a Single Report

Think of several restaurant locations with each having its own valuation and then a single report tying them together.

  1. Better Data Integration

The older version of the software needed to be updated for some database changes. VSS9 has been redesigned so that it has access to the latest databases without needing to be updated. For example, the latest version of RMA needed to be updated for correctly mapping multiple years of data because the latest data uses the newer version of NAICS codes.

  1. Improved Usability

The VSS8 docked toolbar has been replaced with a standard windows application.  This means the program is MUCH easier to use and you can have more than one window open at the same time which is especially helpful when you want to see the report at the same time as the analysis. You can also size or drag any window in VSS9 to any one of your monitors and even open more than one VSS9 window at a time (i.e., Analysis window, Report window, or Data window). Windows are also color coded making it easier to switch between them. And these are just a few of the updates that are game changers for saving time and eliminating frustration.

  1. Updates and Bug Fixes

To keep current with updates and bug fixes you MUST be using VSS9. We have stopped updating and fixing bugs in VSS8, so we encourage you to update as soon as you can.

When to Move Over to VSS9?

You get to decide when to move over, but once you get a taste of VSS9 we are quite sure you’ll never look back. Since technology and valuation is constantly evolving, by using VSS9 you can rest assured your valuations are on the cutting edge of valuation technology. For example, RMA updated NAICS codes this year. While this might only affect a handful of industries, the mapping table for a multiyear analysis will not be included in VSS8. We have an exciting roadmap for VSS9 with plans to put Guideline Company downloads into VSS9.

Can I still use VSS8?

You can still use VSS8, but we encourage you to update to VSS9.  If you need to, you can have both VSS8 and VSS9 installed on your computer at the same time. You can run both versions, but it’s important to note that while VSS8 can still be used, updates and bug fixes will only be made to VSS9.

If you haven’t already tried VSS9, switching over is as easy as emailing Mark at mroberts@valusource.com and he’ll get you set up so you can hit the ground running with your next valuation.
